If you happen to be playing Dougald McColl's Farewell to France in grade 3 Solos, what is a good tempo?

Frasers seem to play it around 84 in the 2001 Worlds, but there's alot of sticking in there for a grade 3 Drummer to get in....the tempo needs to be slowed, but what will be acceptable?

Solo and band tempo are two completely different things, where band is quicker and more for drive and solo is more conservative and geared toward good expression.

68-70 is good enough for the gr3 level!

That's great! He's been working on it at 69. Sounds good and not labored, now, if we can get Josh to keep the tempo on the pipes, it'll be fine :bolt:

When playing pipe band music I teach my youngsters to play with" lilt " or from the heart, especially 2/4 marches, specific metronome tempos are never used ,we just know by practice, expression and dynamics being played if the music is good.
If you are comfortable playing the music, that is what matters most.

The beat should never be a foriegn concept or seperate entity of the music!
