Just wondering what Glasgow actually does for bands other than taking in 10 or $20 million dollars for their economy?

It keeps the British hamburger industry afloat.

not ta mention the deep-fried Mars bar industry...

So the bands put up all the money to perform and everybody else reaps the profits?

They get a platform to perform. Glasgow does worlds week to promote bagpiping in general. If the comp went elsewhere it'd be the same story though.

So if Vegas put up $1,000,000 with a better venue and better weather, the bands could play there too?

Yep, but you gotta admit - Glasgow do a great job with it - and plus it's a handy weekend away for me! lol :zap:

I'm sure it's not just the bands themselves that bring in money...tourists, spectators, etc. Just like any other event anywhere else.

The sound of 10000 bass drone top sections cracking simultaneously would be deafening!

It's not going anywhere soon, not with $20 million at stake!

I think in the near future the World's will be moving to different locations as it only seems fitting at this point. Yes, we all love to go to Scotland to compete, but it remains financially difficult at best when you have to skip over the big pond. I would welcome the change.

Glasgow is the perfect place to hold the World Pipe Band Championships they do an exceptional job,the lay out of the venue and the facilities are second to none and the Glasgow people are great.

I remember when the championship was held in other towns and cities throughout Scotland and Belfast, these venues were never as good as Glasgow

Glasgow and Scotland are what make the World Championship the very special event that it is, any other city and country would not be the same.

I guess this is how traditions start, how many other types of events exist where thousands flock to one place every year?

I reckon it's time Belfast had a shout. Northern Ireland has enough of a piping heritage and enough high quality bands in all grades to make it deserve the right to host the Worlds.

You got that right! That's the real reason it's never leaving. Belfast never had a chance nor will it

Does anybody think Glasgow is a dangerous place?

Other than quite a few breakins at the dorms, I've never heard fo anyone being hurt!
