This weekend was our (St. Andrew's Society of Winnipeg Pipe Band) annual concert. We did two shows, one each Saturday and Sunday. Included were all the bands in the organization; Juvenile, grade 3 and grade 2, along with the guitar band Pop The Trunk on a few numbers, and highland dancers. Any concert is a lot of work, no matter how simple or intricate!
Our band tries to put on a concert every year. As I was walking out of the hall today, I was wondering..... How many other bands out there....and in what grades..(not just the grade 1 top-dollar folks)...put on concerts...and how often?

Yes. The band I was previously with (G4), did a concert and and at least one Ceilidh a year.
Current band does one small concert a year, but I think it's a sponsor agreement thing. My main band is a concert/performance band so yeah...we do concerts. We hope to do at least one a year just for ourselves.

Our band (G3) puts on a concert each year usually at the end of February/early March depending on the date we can get our hall. We usually have dancers from local studios (Highland and Irish) and at least one or two guest performers - either another pipe band, a celtic group or similar. It's a lot of work, but we have a loyal local audience that attends, and so far, we've made money on it, so we'll continue.

I have moved to Milngavie during the year and joined Milngavie PB. The band actually own an 18th century building that was bequeathed to them. It's small, but the band hold little concerts that help to raise funds. It's also ideal for letting the novice juveniles play in public for the first time without getting nervous about being judged. There's nothing like a supportive crowd to boost confidence and wee concerts are a good way to do it.
The G3b band put on ceilidhs too, which are good for previewing the year's comp tunes. Every way of raising funds has to be thought of these days!

The Rose & Thistle, based in and around Portsmouth, have started putting on a recital once a year.
Last year it was Chris Armstrong and this year was Glenn Brown. It's a brilliant oppurtunity to see some fantastic piping in my opinion, in an area that has lots of bands but not masses of raw talent.
