I agree with you that if drummers and pipers do not have access to solo competitions because of geography, isolation, cost etc. then by all means use what ever "reality" competition and "assessment" service that is available to advance your knowledge of pipe band music.

We are fortunate in the central belt of Scotland, we have access to every available solo contest, seminar,demonstration, concert etc.

I suppopse the same adrenaline and excitement will run through your body whether you compete "live" or "reality".

I would be quite happy to help any drummer further their knowledge of music.

Just ask.

I still prefer live competitions for my pupils.

I actually think this is a great idea and have just posted this to my private mailing list as i know most people don't bother with forums.

It does two things:

#1, forces them to make a recording of themselves, so they can hear what they are doing.

#2 Verifies what they are doing is on track and helps build their confidance.

nope solo drumming is not a dead issue its still a very big thing but theres just not much to report on just yet its usually when the world solo drummings on people take more of an interest.

Possibly....although the guys have commitments to meet themselves so it's not a given. we did try a 'post your videos' type thing a year or so ago and then a poll was held to see who liked what the best...maybe that would be the best way forward?

It would be fun to do it again...
