This past weekend was the begining of competition season. We had finished the first day which was in Red Deer. Sunday's competition was north just outside of Edmonton.
Our Bass drummer left to travel to the next comp with the bass straped to the top of his van. Ten minutes after leaving Red Deer the bass drum got tired of riding on the top of the van. The strap broke and out drum flew off the top of the van to the ground below. I might add that they were traveling at 120km per hour. The bass drum did a couple of flips then landed on it's wheels in the next lane into on coming traffic. Cars were zooming off the road to avoid the drum. If finally came to a rest. No accidents were caused / no one was hurt. The drum received minimal damage. Here's the best part. On Sunday's comp our drum section took first place. In big letters on our sheet read "Nice tuned drum." With results like that, I think we are going to try and do the same thing with our tenor drums!

You're right, it could have ended up pretty bad. Good thing we already have a new bass on order.

By the way, what brand of drum was that? They might give you a new one for free after a testimonial like that. ![]()
