Practice one hand at a time. As you spin the right hand say One, over and over with each revolution. With the left hand, say 'two' with each revolution. Now bring the two together. Spinning slowly say one , two, one two as you spin right, left. Slowly getting your spin faster. Doing this helps your brain memory train your muscle memory. PM me if this doesn't make enough sense. Extra advise, make sure your basic flourishes are good before trying the harder ones such as this. The old, Walk before you run.

I'm a bit of technical dinosaur my self and don't even own a video camera except my phone. If you want an outlet that is used a lot, have a chat with Kenny Hiner. Also known as Tweek McGee on youtube. He's a member here, so you could PM him. I know he's always looking for people to add to his Flourishing Tenor site. Side note: Flourishing Tenor may still be down at the moment but will TBOK be up and running again soon.

While the Kells videos can't be posted on the Internet, there are some tenor drummers who have them downloaded...
![]() Just to add to Janelle's comments about making videos, I'd encourage any of the tenor drummers on here who are interested to make an instructional video of a specific flourish. It doesn't have to be perfect, "oops" is an acceptable word (Alison used it in one of the Kells videos), it mainly has to show how to do the flourish. Also, if you have a neat routine incorporating 2 or more flourishes, such as an "In-Out to Split The Feather (Flurry)" that sort of video would be quite nice to see as well. Please do contact Kenny Hiner about posting videos, since Kenny seems to be the only one focussing on getting this sort of thing together at the moment. Unfortunately Flourishingtenor.com is down at the moment, but I believe that Kenny is working on getting it up and running again soon. Robbie or Andy may also know a little more about the web site situation.

You all rock. Last night after about 20 min of frustration my pinwheels (cartwheels) started alternating all on their own. They still need LOTS of work, but this was a huge step forward for me an I wanted to share it with you all.

Congratulations!!! I was practicing those this morning for some reason, in-out into a flurry and transition into a cartwheel, just to see how it worked.

Something I do when practicing flourishes, which I find helps allot, is doing them slow, so slow they could almost stop, then speed up, then slow etc etc. Control is the key. If you can't do them slow, doing them fast most likely will not be done correctly.
Also, when doing flourishes that require unsyncronized movement, my teacher always told me to think about doing "double dutch", the skip rope thing. Lina's advice about lining up your flourish with a line or centre point, is very good advice when doing the pinwheel. Nothing worse than a pinwheel off centre. Ok everyone, now let's do them in reverse! ![]()

That's just not nice to sugest. I can bearly do them forward. Now my head hurts. Both from thinking about doing them in reverse and from trying them with the assorted wacks!
